The Day the Earth Stood Still review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 16 February 2011 12:56 (A review of The Day the Earth Stood Still)

So the theme of the movie seems to be, Pursue peace and everything will be wonderful, and if you don't, you will be obliterated by a killer robot. The hypocrisy drips.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 14 February 2011 01:09 (A review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington)

A true moment of repentance by Senator Joseph Paine at the end of the movie. This is the best scene in the movie by far. It would cost him every bit of worldly fame, honor, and comfort. Yet, the cause of truth wins out. I think this movie also reminds us that corruption is not just a present day reality. Corruption exists because people at there core have sin. No one is exempt. There has never been a true golden age in America, rather we have always needed and continue to need salvation.

Patton review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2011 11:39 (A review of Patton)

Patton's approach to life has many points of application for the Christian desiring to live within the Kingdom of God. Life is a battle, not a time for peace. So, too, God's kingdom is under attack by a real enemy. Christians are called to engage in this battle. Patton was a man of discipline, Christians too are called to discipline, order, and duty. Patton desired to ever be advancing against the enemy. He always had plans set forth so that he could do just that. There are times for rest in the Christian life, but there are also times to advance and fight against the enemy. Obviously this movie has dissimilarities as well. Christians do not fight with weapons of destruction, but rather with prayer, the preaching of God's word, the Sacraments, and the gospel of Christ. Patton also seemed to seek his own glory at times, rather than the glory of his nation, or for the Christian, God. Patton also desired that the war never come to an end. The Christian, however, prays, "Marnatha," Lord Jesus come quickly and usher in peace.

The Last Airbender review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 31 January 2011 02:41 (A review of The Last Airbender)

Billed as a movie for kids, and the dialogue lived up to that, very choppy and overt. The characters weren't developed that well either. One character ends up becoming a sacrificial redeemer, but up to that point there was no development of that character. Special effects were decent, but Shyamalan missed the overall mark on this one.

I'm nostalgic for the original, this one just didn't catch my imagination.

Unique movie, fun. Love story a bit strange, but the characters are fun to watch.
